Course Description:

Imagine that you can choose any number from 1 to 10. Now imagine that you can only choose a whole number from 1 to 10. How many choices do you have in each scenario? The first set of numbers offers so many options that we cannot even count how many choices we have, whereas the second set offers exactly ten choices. Discrete mathematics deals with situations similar to the second scenario. Namely, situations where we can count the number of choices. We are often able to count our choices and therefore discrete math is an extremely broad field; this course will survey a number of topics with many applications in mathematics and computer science. It is an ideal course for students who enjoy problem solving, abstract thinking, and are considering studying mathematics or computer science in college.
